The highlight for me this year at the Small Press Expo was when Chris Staros of Top Shelf bought a shark drawing from my four-year-old son Adam, who was doodling at my table Sunday morning. It was a cool moment for several reasons. First, Adam really loves to draw and he wanted to be there Sunday among everyone. He's kinda shy but really opens up when it comes to drawing. Second, Chris Staros is such as class act; makes me want to buy even more Top Shelf books! Third, I realized Adam is truly the SPX Kid. He's been going to the show since he was born. Some folks have seen that photo of him from '05 crawling around Sunday morning at the show and Harvey Pekar, who was sitting and enjoying a muffin, casting a smile at him. Adam has surpassed me by miles in being hip.
(Below) Adam with Pekar (2005) and Adam with the Plastic Farm Rabbits (2008). I'll see if I can find a pic of Adam from this year.

Addendum: Adam gave away a few other drawings, too. Here's one
write up about a Star War drawing he did.
